The short answer
Plan on two bills. The ad budget goes to Google on your card, at a level you set. Management is the second: ours is a flat $1,500 a month, and we ask for at least $1,500 a month of ad spend, so $3,000 a month or more in all. Google sets the price of each click in its auction.
The two bills behind a roofer's Google Ads
| Bill | Paid to | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Ad budget | Google, on your card, from your own ad account | You set it. We ask for at least $1,500 a month |
| Management | UpGrow | $1,500 a month, flat |
| Landing page for the campaign | Included in management | No extra charge |
| Tracking from click to booked job | Included in management | No extra charge |
| Ad copy and ad images | Included in management | No extra charge |
We ask for at least $1,500 of spend so the ad money is never less than half of what you put in. Below that, the fee is most of the bill. The same $1,500 fee covers Facebook and ChatGPT campaigns, and the Facebook budget is paid to Meta on your card the same way. The ads service page lists everything it includes.
How Google bills the ad budget
You set an average daily budget, and Google's billing rules set how far a single day or a month can go from it (About average daily budgets, Google Ads Help).
| Rule | What Google says | At $50 a day |
|---|---|---|
| Most you can be charged in one day | Two times your average daily budget, for most campaigns | $100 |
| Most you can be charged in a month | 30.4 times your average daily budget, for most campaigns | $1,520 |
| What one click costs | Your actual cost per click, which is often less than the most you bid | Set in the auction |
So $50 a day is the $1,500-a-month floor we ask for: a busy day can double, and the month stays at or under $1,520. Google's definition of cost per click says the maximum you bid is the most you will typically pay, and that you will often be charged less (Cost-per-click, Google Ads Help).
What does one roofing click cost?
Whether an ad shows, where it shows and what a click costs is decided by Google's auction every time someone searches. We do not print a cost per click or a cost per lead for roofing, because the auction sets both and we cannot promise either one.
What we can say is how the money gets spent. On Google you pay for the moment somebody types the problem, such as a leaking roof in your city. Every click lands on a page built for that campaign, and every lead is tracked to whether it booked, so after a month you can see what each booked job cost.
Google Ads vs Local Services Ads for a roofer
Local Services Ads are Google's other ad product for contractors, and they bill per lead (How leads work, Local Services Help).
| Question | Google Ads (Search) | Local Services Ads |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Clicks on your ad | Valid leads: calls, messages and booking requests related to your business |
| What sets the price | Google's auction, at or under your maximum bid | Your location, the job type, the type of lead and your bidding mode |
| Monthly ceiling | 30.4 times your average daily budget | Your average weekly budget times the average number of weeks in a month |
Our ads service covers Google Search, Facebook and ChatGPT campaigns.
What other agencies charge to run roofing ads
On 16 Aug 2026 we read the pricing pages of 11 agencies that market contractors. Every ads-management fee that was printed was flat, starting between $500 and $2,000 a month, and none was a percentage of ad spend. Three of them printed the same rule we follow: the ad budget is paid to Google directly, separate from the fee. Several printed no ads fee at all.
Our $1,500 sits in the upper middle of that range. It includes the landing page, the ad copy and images, tracking from click to booked job and a weekly review of spend and lead quality with you.
When Google Ads are the wrong first step for a roofer
Ads sending traffic to a site that does not turn visits into calls is the most expensive way to learn that the site does not work. Start with the site and the Google profile; ads run alongside a plan, and the site keeps working when you pause spend. Our plans start at $199 a month, set out in what SEO costs a roofing company.
The other case is tracking. Without a way to tell which calls came from the ad, nobody can judge the spend. Our Presence plan has no call tracking; the ads service and the Growth plan do.
Questions roofers ask about this
What is the least a roofer should spend on Google Ads?
We ask for at least $1,500 a month of ad spend, about $50 a day, so the ad money is never less than half of what you put in. Google lets you set a lower budget; at that level the management fee is most of the bill.
Do I pay UpGrow for the ad budget?
No. The budget goes on your card, on your own ad account, paid to Google and Meta directly. You pay us the flat $1,500 management fee.
Can you promise what a roofing lead will cost?
No. The platform's auction decides whether an ad shows, where it shows and what a click costs, every time. We control the setup, the message, the budget rules and the tracking, show you the numbers weekly, and tell you if the math is not working.
Can Google charge more than my daily budget?
On a single day, yes: up to two times the average daily budget for most campaigns. Across a month, no more than 30.4 times it.
